Ronald & Chartis Brown’s Story

Ronald Brown

Chartis Brown is a 2nd grade teacher in Duval County Public Schools and her husband Ronald Brown is a Stage Hand worker for Local Union #115 in Jacksonville Florida. Due to COVID, Ron's work was reduced and temporarily stopped in 2020. Ron recently suffered a stroke to the entire left side of his body which has caused him not to be able to work. Ron had a stroke on June 4, 2021 which resulted in him spending 7 days in Baptist Inpatient Hospital, 30 days in Brooks Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital and another 30 days in Brooks Skilled Nursing Facility. Due to his stroke, Ron has been unable to work and has not gotten approved for Social Security yet. He has not received a paycheck in 1 1/2 years. His disability case is currently in re-evaluation with Social Security.

These circumstances left Chartis Brown as the sole caregiver for Ron, which requires additional money on top of rehabilitation copays and services. Chartis is also still a school teacher, who helps to teach over 1300 students per day which includes physically impaired, and many other exceptionalities in her program. She faces a full day of caregiving both at work and home.

The Browns have served the city of Jacksonville for over 20 years in community service and education. Currently still volunteering for a community service called - From Blight to Bright which is catered to cleaning up trash in the blight communities of Jacksonville. As a preacher and knowing the needs of the community, Ron started the mission before his stroke in 2021. The Browns have been featured on News4Jax in December 2019 for serving the community by cleaning up trash.

The Browns had an older HVAC Unit that ran on refrigerant that is no longer used in the industry requiring a replacement. The age of their home also left them with the task of upgrading their Electrical Panel to meet current power requirements.

Air Angels mission is to provide to those who find themselves in these positions. It was with great pleasure that the Association took on the project and received donations. Both Cool R Us & Snyder Teams donated their efforts to the install. Snyder upgraded the Electrical Panel while Cool R Us completed the changeout.
